Do I fit to my employer?

Are you looking for a new challenge or do you have the vague feeling that your employer is not the right fit for you?

If your career is about more than just getting a paycheck every month, then the Company House might be for you.

House with 4 rooms for Team, Network, Cooperation, Myself and in the Roof the Company

What is the Company House about?

The Company House is about aligning your desires, values and motivation with what is important to the company. You find out if the goals of the company match your personal ones. It is not so nice for both sides if you have to bend or work against your own convictions. In the long run, it makes you unhappy and you can’t achieve what you would be capable of under different circumstances.

For example, if you are very concerned about the environment and the cafeteria only has plastic dishes that are thrown away, this could become a problem for you in the long run. Of course, this has nothing to do with your work, but internally you will distance yourself and this will have an impact.

For this I have developed the company house. It is based on the family house from systemic consulting. I find it fitting because, after all, we spend a lot of time at work and several people with different needs come together. Almost like in a family.

The company house is meant to help you see if your current or potential employer is a good fit for you.

The Method

First, I would like to explain the method. In the company house there are different rooms, with different tasks. It is a sample house, which means that one of the rooms may not fit your situation. That’s ok, because everyone has different needs, so it’s no problem to adapt the house to your needs. But be careful, don’t adapt it only because it is more difficult to describe the room, or you are afraid of it!

The house consists of 5 rooms, which I would like to describe to you here.

In the roof you will find the company itself, with all its values, vision and mission. Next, there is a room for your department or team. The second room on the top floor is about your professional network. Finally, on the first floor, we have your direct supervisor and yourself.

You can find out what is important in each room by downloading the worksheet.

The Result

You have looked at the company house and found discrepancies? This does not mean that you have to look for another employer immediately. It is normal that not everything matches 100%. After all, you are a private person, and your employer is a company. This fact alone means that there will be differences. But you now know where they are. Now you have the chance to decide consciously and not based on a vague feeling.

You now even have the chance to address certain things in a very targeted way and thus perhaps influence them, or at least understand them better.

What you should take away from “The company house – do I fit in with my employer?”:

  • It is important that your values and those of your employer fit together.
  • You have a basis to start a conversation.
  • Just like in a family, differences are sometimes good
